Oshakati

Oshakati is the capital and administrative center of the Oshana Region in north-central Namibia, situated north of the Etosha Pan. It is the largest town in north-central Namibia with approximately 39,700 inhabitants, and together with Ondangwa and Ongwediva, it forms the second largest metropolitan area in the country after Windhoek. The town is known as "The Commercial Centre of the North" and aims to provide quality and affordable services to its residents, fostering a habitable, prosperous, and industrialized environment.Historically, Oshakati played a significant role during the Angolan civil war, serving as an important base for the South African army. This period limited civil development, and the Oshivambo-speaking people bore a substantial burden during Namibia's struggle for independence. Today, the town's economy is diverse, encompassing hospitality and tourism, service industries, small and medium businesses, subsistence farming, and manufacturing. The Dr. Frans Aupa Indongo Open Market is a notable commercial hub.
