Masasi

Masasi is a town and administrative area situated in the Mtwara Region of southeastern Tanzania. It is governed through local administrative structures including the Masasi Town Council (Halmashauri ya Mji Masasi) and the surrounding Masasi District Council. The main administrative headquarters for the town council are located along Nachingwea Road near the MANAWASA offices, serving as the central hub for municipal services, local governance, civic affairs, and public administration.The town and its surrounding district support a population of over 275,000 residents, acting as an important service and commercial node in southern Tanzania. Public infrastructure across the area encompasses a network of healthcare and educational institutions. Key facilities include Mkomaindo Hospital—a primary healthcare and referral provider—along with several regional health centers and dozens of dispensaries. Educational infrastructure features more than a hundred primary schools, over twenty secondary schools such as Masasi Technical Secondary School, and tertiary institutions including the Masasi College of Health and Allied Sciences.Local economic and social activities in Masasi center around trade, agricultural business, and public sector services. The municipal and district councils oversee local business licensing, service levies, community welfare programs, and infrastructure development to support residents across the municipality.
