Clarens

Clarens is a picturesque small town nestled in the foothills of the Maluti Mountains in the Free State province of South Africa, often referred to as the "Jewel of the Eastern Free State". Established in 1912, the town was named after Clarens in Switzerland, where exiled President Paul Kruger spent his final days. It is strategically located approximately 336 km from Johannesburg, 284 km from Bloemfontein, and 389 km from Durban, making it a popular destination for weekend getaways. The village is characterized by its tranquil ambiance, spectacular sandstone mountains, and a mild climate.The area is renowned for its stunning natural beauty, with the Rooiberge mountain range encompassing the village and the Maluti Mountains visible further southeast.
