Kang

Kang is a village located in the Kgalagadi District of Botswana, situated within the vast Kalahari Desert. It serves as a crucial stop along the Trans-Kalahari Highway, connecting Ghanzi to the north and Sekoma to the south, and further providing access to Gaborone, the capital of Botswana. The village is experiencing rapid growth, with a recorded population of 6,764 residents according to the 2022 census. Its strategic location also offers access to significant natural attractions, including the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park to the south-west and the Central Kalahari Game Reserve to the north-east.The governance of Kang falls under the Kgalagadi North constituency, and the village is divided into seven distinct wards: Gasekgalo, Gamonyemana (the main ward), Gamotshoto, Gapanyana, Gamoriti, Kaatshwene, and Tshwaragano ward. It is notably led by a female chief, Kgosi Basadi Seipone. Kang boasts a range of essential infrastructure and services, including a Central Roads Depot, a Central Transport Organisation with a fuel point, and an Airstrip/Landing ground located along the Kang-Tsetseng road. The village also provides a Health Clinic, Magistrate Court, Wildlife offices, Botswana Power Corporation Offices, Water Utilities Corporation offices, and Facility Management offices.Education is well-supported in Kang, with a Botswana Open University (BOU) Regional Campus, a Senior Secondary School, a Junior Secondary School, and two primary schools. The BOU Kang Regional Campus plays a vital role as an administrative hub, extending distance and lifelong learning services to students across six districts: Kgalagadi North, Kgalagadi South, Mabutsane, Letlhakeng, Charles Hill, and Gantsi. This campus is particularly unique for its reach into numerous remote areas, serving marginalized communities throughout the Kgalagadi region.
