Elands Bay

Elands Bay, also known as Elandsbaai, is a coastal town situated in the Western Cape Province of South Africa, approximately 220 kilometers north of Cape Town. It is nestled between the Atlantic Ocean and the Bobbejaan Mountain, offering a unique landscape where the magnificent Verlorenvlei, a natural marsh and sanctuary for 240 bird species, flows into the Atlantic Ocean. The town is renowned globally as a premier surfing destination, particularly for its consistent Atlantic swell that creates one of the best left-hand surf breaks on the African continent.Beyond surfing, Elands Bay provides a diverse range of outdoor activities, including mountain biking, sailing, fishing, rock climbing, hiking, horse-riding, and 4x4 trails. The bay is also a prime location for whale and dolphin viewing between July and September, with Southern Right whales and Heaviside Dolphins frequently observed. Elands Bay Cave, a rock art site, dates back 10,000 years and is recognized as a Western Cape Heritage site. The Elandsbaai Rockshelter Museum provides further insight into the West Coast Heritage sites.
