Giraffe Manor is an iconic boutique hotel located in the Lang'ata suburb of Nairobi, Kenya. Set within 12 acres of private land, surrounded by 140 acres of indigenous forest, it offers a unique and intimate experience where guests can interact directly with a resident herd of endangered Nubian (formerly Rothschild's) giraffes. These gentle giants frequently visit the manor house, poking their long necks through windows during breakfast and afternoon tea in search of treats. The property is conveniently situated approximately 40 minutes from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and 25 minutes from Wilson Airport.Modelled on a Scottish hunting lodge, the manor was constructed in 1932. Its history as a giraffe sanctuary began in 1974 when owners Betty and Jock Leslie-Melville initiated a breeding program to protect the dwindling Rothschild's giraffe population. This conservation effort continues today, with Giraffe Manor being part of The Safari Collection and contributing a portion of each guest's fee to the African Fund for Endangered Wildlife (AFEW) and its adjacent Giraffe Centre. The estate is also home to warthogs, small antelope species, and abundant birdlife.The hotel features 12 individually styled rooms, split between the historic main manor and the newer Garden Manor. Guests can enjoy a range of activities, including feeding the giraffes, exploring the local culture, and taking day trips to nearby attractions such as the Karen Blixen Museum, the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust Elephant Orphanage, and Nairobi National Park. Adjacent to the manor, The Retreat offers a wellness center with a spa, hot tub, sauna, steam room, gym, and a 21-meter infinity pool overlooking the giraffe sanctuary. Rates are all-inclusive, covering meals, most beverages, laundry, and transfers to local attractions.
