Fanjove Private Island is a secluded, eco-friendly retreat located in the Songo Songo Archipelago, off the Tanzanian coast, south of Mafia Island. This intimate destination is accessible via a 40-minute flight from Dar es Salaam to Songo Songo island, followed by a short boat transfer by traditional dhow or speedboat. The island offers a unique "barefoot luxury" experience, emphasizing harmony with nature and minimal environmental impact.The island features pristine white-powder beaches, crystal-clear turquoise waters, and an 11-kilometer preserved coral reef teeming with marine life. Its waters are frequented by Spinner and Bottlenose dolphins, and humpback whales pass during their migration season from May to September. Green turtles nest on the island's beaches between April and July. The island is also a significant stopover for migratory birds from November to March, and in January, it becomes vibrant with butterflies. Activities include diving and snorkeling to explore the untouched coral reefs, kayak safaris, dhow sailing at sunset, bird watching, catch-and-release fishing, and guided nature walks along the Fanjove Nature Trail to discover the island's history and local customs. The lodge is committed to conservation, contributing to the preservation of the coral reef and dedicating a percentage of its income to the social development of the nearby Songosongo village.
