Lazy Lagoon Island Lodge is a private island retreat situated on a 9km sandspit, known as Ras Luale spit, along Tanzania's Swahili Coast. Located approximately 70 km north of Dar es Salaam and just south of Bagamoyo, it is offshore from the mainland in the Zanzibar Channel. The lodge is accessible via a 15-minute motor launch ride across a 2km lagoon or a charter flight to a private airstrip followed by a 20-minute boat transfer. The island boasts nine kilometers of deserted, powder-white coral sand beaches, complemented by natural mangrove forests and indigenous bush.The lodge features 12 spacious and airy beach bandas, constructed with local materials and traditional Swahili architecture, including tall, steep makuti-thatched roofs designed to catch sea breezes. Each banda offers en-suite facilities, twin or double beds, an upstairs 'loft' suitable for children, a private shaded veranda, and direct access to the beach. Guests can enjoy ocean views from their rooms and the main dining area. Electricity is supplied by a generator during specified hours.Lazy Lagoon Island is a private nature reserve, home to various small mammals such as bush babies, suni antelope, bush pig, genets, baboons, and duiker. The abundant birdlife, particularly water birds, thrives within the mangrove ecosystems. The surrounding Indian Ocean waters are rich in exotic marine life and coral reefs, making it an ideal spot for snorkeling. Activities available include swimming, kayaking in the calm lagoon, snorkeling, sailing with Laser II dinghies, windsurfing, and fishing. Guests can also explore rock pools at low tide, embark on boat excursions to a private sandbar, or gather for beachfront bonfires. For cultural enrichment, day trips to the nearby UNESCO World Heritage Site of Bagamoyo and the ancient Kaole ruins are offered.Dining at Lazy Lagoon Island Lodge is a highlight, with full-board meals served in the main dining area, often featuring fresh seafood sourced daily from local fishermen.
