Kanana Camp is a five-star, eco-tourism certified safari lodge situated within its private Kanana Concession in the southwestern Okavango Delta, Botswana, overlooking the Xudum River. The concession, spanning 35,500 hectares, is a diverse landscape characterized by a network of islands adorned with palms, figs, ebony, and knobthorn trees, alongside permanent delta areas featuring reedbeds, papyrus, channels, and lagoons. This unique environment transforms with the annual floods, offering a blend of water and land-based safari experiences. The camp is particularly renowned for hosting one of Southern Africa's largest and most active seasonal heronries, a 100-hectare breeding site for various bird species, including Pink Backed Pelicans, herons, egrets, and storks, best visited from July to December.The camp provides accommodation in seven or eight spacious, wood-framed safari tents, each featuring en-suite bathrooms with large walk-in showers and luxurious fittings. Family tents are also available with two bedrooms and separate en-suite facilities. The main lodge area is raised and open-sided, offering expansive views of the Delta and includes a reading nook, bar, lounge, and dining room. Guests can also enjoy a unique "Sleep Out Deck" experience, spending a night under the magnificent African sky, complete with dinner and breakfast, available between April and November. Kanana Camp operates on 100% solar power, reflecting its commitment to environmental sustainability.Activities at Kanana are varied and cater to diverse interests, including morning, afternoon, and night game drives in open 4x4 vehicles, guided bush walks with armed guides, and water-based explorations via mokoro (traditional dugout canoe) or motorboat, depending on water levels. The private concession status allows for off-road driving and night drives with spotlights, enhancing wildlife viewing opportunities. The area boasts abundant wildlife, with frequent sightings of predators such as lion, leopard, and wild dog, as well as year-round residents like kudu, impala, bushbuck, sitatunga, and lechwe. Hippos and crocodiles inhabit the waterways, and elephants are present for most of the year. Fishing for species like tilapia and African pike is also offered from March to December.
