Bulungula Lodge is an eco-friendly, Fair Trade certified accommodation nestled on the breathtaking Wild Coast of the Eastern Cape, South Africa. It is situated in the heart of the traditional Nqileni village, between the Bulungula and Xhora river mouths, offering a remote and off-the-grid travel experience. The lodge is 100% owned and managed by the vibrant local Xhosa community, making it a unique destination focused on sustainable tourism and cultural immersion. Guests can choose to stay in traditional Xhosa rondavels, forest cabins, or a campground, all designed to provide the soothing sound of the Indian Ocean's surf. The lodge operates carbon neutrally, utilizing solar power, borehole water, and innovative 'rocket' hot-water showers and compost toilets.The surrounding area boasts 6 kilometers of pristine, untouched white sandy beaches, offering spectacular sea and forest views. The location is ideal for stargazing due to minimal light pollution, and visitors often spot dolphins at sunrise and sunset, with whales visible between July and October. A diverse range of birdlife is also present. The lodge offers a variety of activities deeply integrated with the local culture, including Xhosa Culture Tours where guests can learn about village life, traditional practices like mud brick making and maize crushing, and even enjoy face painting and traditional maize beer.
