Arathusa Safari Lodge is an intimate, adults-only safari lodge nestled in the northern Sabi Sand Game Reserve, Mpumalanga, South Africa. This prime location shares an unfenced boundary with the Kruger National Park, allowing for the free movement of wildlife across a vast, biodiverse wilderness. The lodge itself is situated on an 868-hectare property, with game drives traversing approximately 4000 hectares through reciprocal agreements with neighboring lodges. A permanent, year-round waterhole at the heart of the lodge serves as a constant focal point for wildlife viewing, attracting a diverse array of animals and birdlife directly to the camp. The landscape features open savannas, riverine thickets, and river beds, with the perennial Manyeleti River meandering through the property.Arathusa is particularly renowned for its exceptional leopard sightings, often described as close, relaxed, and consistent, thanks to the guides' deep familiarity with the resident leopards and their territories. The reserve is home to all of the Big Five—lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino—which are regularly seen. Other abundant wildlife includes giraffe, zebra, wild dog, hyena, kudu, nyala, impala, waterbuck, hippos, and crocodiles. Over 350 bird species have been recorded in the area. Guests can expect twice-daily game drives in open safari vehicles with qualified guides and trackers, as well as guided bush walks, offering immersive experiences in the African bush.The lodge offers 12 spacious, air-conditioned suites, accommodating a maximum of 24 guests aged 12 and over. Each suite features an en-suite bathroom, verandah, mini-bar, mosquito nets, and coffee-making facilities. Some suites provide direct views of the waterhole, while bush-facing suites offer enhanced privacy and include private plunge pools. The hospitality at Arathusa is characterized by its warmth, personal touch, and sincerity, creating a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere.
