Bilene

Bilene, also known as Praia do Bilene or Vila Praia Do Bilene, is a popular coastal town and beach resort situated in southern Mozambique, approximately 140 kilometers northeast of the capital, Maputo, within the Gaza province. It is particularly renowned for its stunning Uembje Lagoon, a vast body of calm, clear water separated from the open Indian Ocean by a natural barrier of high sand dunes. This unique geographical feature makes it a favored destination, often cited as the closest beach getaway for residents of Johannesburg, South Africa. The beach itself, Praia de Bilene, extends for 20 kilometers, boasting white sandy shores and pristine waters ideal for various aquatic activities.The tranquil waters of Uembje Lagoon serve as a playground for numerous watersports, including sailing, canoeing, windsurfing, snorkeling, kayaking, and kite surfing. Visitors can also enjoy fishing in the lagoon. Beyond the water, activities like dune sliding are mentioned. The area is rich in natural beauty and offers opportunities for wildlife viewing; nearby attractions like the Ndzou Camp provide a chance to spot elephants, lions, and giraffes in their natural habitat.
