Mahambo

Mahambo is a rural municipality located in Madagascar, specifically within the Fenerive Est district of the Analanjirofo Region. It is situated on the Indian Ocean coast, approximately 95 km north of Toamasina, and is accessible via National Road 5. The municipality covers an area of 278 km² (107 sq mi) and has an estimated elevation of 13 meters (43 ft). The Iazafo river flows through the municipality, with its mouth located there.The population of Mahambo was estimated at approximately 26,000 in 2001, with the majority (80%) engaged in farming. Key agricultural products include rice, bananas, cloves, and lychee. Services provide employment for 17% of the population, while fishing accounts for 3%. Primary and junior-level secondary education facilities are available within the town.Beyond its administrative and economic aspects, Mahambo is also known as a tranquil beach village, offering pristine beaches and clear waters, making it a popular destination for relaxation and surfing due to its consistent swells. Visitors can engage in activities such as snorkeling, diving, and kayaking, exploring vibrant coral reefs and lush riverine landscapes. The area is also noted for whale watching opportunities from July to September. The dry season, from May to October, is generally considered the best time to visit for outdoor activities.
