Orupembe

Orupembe is a conservancy located in Namibia, specifically within the Kunene Region. It is characterized by its rugged terrain, featuring high hills and the sacred plains of Onjuva. The area is culturally significant, particularly to the semi-nomadic Himba herders who have consecrated the Onjuva plains, making hunting strictly forbidden as animals are believed to be protected by ancestral spirits. The landscape is a botanical treasure trove, home to numerous endemic plant species such as paper-bark and other commiphora trees, bottle trees, and purple-pod terminalia. The conservancy offers expansive 360-degree views of the surrounding hills, valleys, and plains.Wildlife in Orupembe includes klipspringers, Jameson's rock rabbits, genets, African wildcats, and a diverse array of birds. Black rhinos can also be spotted during game drives, making rhino tracking a notable activity. The area is ideal for nature enthusiasts, offering opportunities for guided walks to explore the unique flora and marble outcrops. Visitors can also embark on day excursions to the Marienfluss and Kunene River, or visit local Himba villages to experience their traditional way of life.
