Medjumbe Island is a secluded private island situated within the protected Quirimbas Archipelago, off the northern coast of Mozambique. This small island, approximately one kilometer long and 500 meters wide, is characterized by pristine white-sand beaches, a vast turquoise lagoon, and spectacular coral reefs. It lies within the Quirimbas National Park, a marine area spanning 1,500 square kilometers and encompassing 11 coral islands, known for its phenomenal vertical drop-offs up to 400 meters deep, abundant with coral-covered caves and diverse tropical fish. The island is accessible via a 45-minute private air transfer from Pemba International Airport.Historically, Medjumbe Island was home to the Anantara Medjumbe Island Resort, an exclusive adults-only hideaway featuring 12 luxurious beach pool villas, each with direct beach access and ocean views. The island and its surrounding waters offered a range of activities, including world-class diving and snorkeling in warm, clear waters, sailing, deep-sea fishing, and various non-motorized water sports such as kayaking and windsurfing.
